Founded in 1922, YPF - Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales (something like Treasury Petroleum Reserves) was taken by Spain’s Repsol in the government of Carlos Menem, in 1999. It was re-nationalized in 2012 by president Cristina Kirchner. Today, 51% are in the government’s hands and the rest is traded on the New York and Buenos Aires stock exchanges.
In May 2014, the government ended a long and controversial issue by paying Repsol a compensation of $5 billion in government securities.
In Brazil, YPF has a facility in Diadema, São Paulo.
